An & Tu Wedding in San Jose

Sometimes when love happens, all you have to do is hold on and let it takes you to where ever it will be. Resistance is futile. 

An and Tu decided Jan 14th 2017 was a good day to do just that, let love happens. Awesome wedding, amazing people and the best Karaoke song ever by a groom.

Diana and Nhan are not living in Berkeley. They are from So Cal. The tea ceremony was not in Berkeley either. It was in Hercules, about 20 min from the campus. The reception was more than an hour south of Berkeley as well, at Ta Restaurant in Milpitas. So why were we in Berkeley?
 

Two words, Top Dog. Two more words, Dance Clubs.
 

Diana and Nhan went to Berkeley and that was how they met. That was how their love story was written. That was why we were here, on this special day, eating at Top Dog and dancing in front of the Dance Club.

It was a great honor to witness Kelly and Jon tie the knot. It was a lovely ceremony on top of the beautiful Cova Hotel in San Francisco on a gorgeous day. This was one of the wedding that when you received the invitation, you know you need to go and train up on your alcohol consumption skill.

The atmosphere was festive, the food was great, the liquor was free-flowing, the Lion Dance was off the roof and the bridemaids ruled the bar!

I finally got around to post Purple and Jeremiah's super sweet and intimate wedding on the blog.

The civil ceremony took place at San Jose City Hall. It was a simple ceremony knotting the two hearts surrounding by the closest loved ones. The reception happened in an intimate setting inside the dining hall of Piatti Ristorante & Bar. Witnessed by close families and best of friends, Purple and Jeremiah vowed their love to each other in a very emotional speech that left many in tears. The bride cried, the groom cried, fathers and mothers cried.

It was nice...it was love.

Yen and David did a big announcement last winter that big news is coming this summer. Congrats to both of them and I can't wait to meet little Ethan...

The week leading to Kelly and David's wedding, it rained a lot. It was an unusually wet November for North Cal, which normally dry, cool and undramatic. While we were concerning about the unexpected weather, all that rain and cloudy sky created very soft light and rendered beautifully when we did the outdoor session.

Kelly and David's intimate ceremony and reception was shared among the closest of friends and family members. It was simply gorgeous. A great day to celebrate a great love.

Lisa and Chung are one of the most easy-going and down to earth couple I've ever met. Their beautiful wedding started out at the picturesque Crystal Springs outdoor wedding venue in Burlingame with the gorgeous view of the tree-covered ridges and mountain hills as the backdrop. The weather was stormy and cold but that made for some great pictures with some dramatic clouds.

The day continued into the night with the reception took place at Zen Peninsula Chinese Banquet in Millbrae. The fun-filled reception started off with one the best lion dance tandem I've ever seen. It was truly awesome!

I've never had so much fun shooting a family portrait like this before. When Trina approached me with the idea of photographing her kids in traditional Vietnamese long dress, Ao Dai, I was like, "Oh yeah, that's cool!".
Then she mentioned part 2, where they would be bringing out a canvas, paints, brushes and splashing it all over each other, I was like "HELL YEAH!".

It was fun...messy, colorful fun!

I always wanted to checkout Shoreline Park in Mountain View for a while now but never did find the time do to it so when Stacy asked me to shoot her maternity, I couldn't be happier. It's a very nice place with many gorgeous backdrops for beautiful photographs. Now I see why this is a very popular place.

The first picture was actually one of the last we shot. I saw the the beautiful last light fell across the lake casting nice golden rim to everything it hit and I knew I would want to frame this shot.

It turned out to be one of my favorite shots of the day.

When Lisa asked me to schedule a shoot in San Francisco, I had no idea that it would turn out to be such an awesome day. I've seen San Francisco on its good day before but on this particular Sunday, it was probably the best weather day I've ever experienced in this foggy City by the Bay. It was just...perfect. The air was warm, with a slightly breeze just enough to remind you that there's an ocean around you. A little warmer and it would be too hot and a little cooler and it would be sweater weather.

Perfect weather, a great city and a beautiful couple that are very much in love.

Earlier in the spring, I had a honor to be part of Diane and Tom's beautiful wedding at Cinnabar Hills Golf Course in San Jose. It was a wonderful day filled with joyful emotions and laughters shared among the closest family members and friends.

I had a great time photographing Kruti and Sahil engagement session around some of the most beautiful spots in San Francisco. Kruti is from California and Sahil is from Florida. They met in San Francisco and will be married in Southern California and then move to Texas.

What an amazing journey for the hearts!

We hung out at some spots around UCSF, then moved to Palace of Fine Arts and finally ended up at Embacardero Center. Along the way, we ran into some books, a bridge and a couple of photobombers.

I had a great opportunity to second-shoot this beautiful wedding at the Palm Event Center along side with Sam Hassas. Sam is one of the amazingly talented wedding photographer whose style and artistic vision are what I've been admired for a long time. You can click here to see more of Sam's awesome work.

Tiffany and Kevin's wedding took place at one of the most gorgeous venue in the Bay Area, The Palm Event Center. A rustic yet modern vineyard venue nested along the hills, between the border of Livermore and Pleasanton.

I got to hang out with the guys while Sam worked his magic with the girls.

Meet Jacoby and Quynton, two high energy, always on the move, minions loving five and four year-old.

You can tell that Jacoby is the calmer, responsible (but not by much) older brother and Quynton is the younger one - and they both like Carl, you know the minion that goes "Beedo, Beedo, Beedo" in Despicable 2 and got blasted by a fire hydrant...yeah that one!

When kids were having fun and being themselves, there was not much else to do but pressing the shutter.

It's been a while since I last saw Nhu and Thong after their wedding a few years ago. It was great to see how their beautiful family has grown. Their first son, Caspian, is now one and half year old and a little baby girl is coming soon.

What great fun for me to photograph Julie and Dylan's family. We were friends since college days but haven't seen each other for years - since their first son, Lucas was born. Now the family has grown to not two, not three, but a with a fourth baby girl coming soon! Wow, how time flies.

Julie and Dylan, however, are still the same fun, charming and goofy couple like the good old days.

Congrats to both of you and I can't wait to meet little "Joie".

Trish, Toan and Thea braved one of the coldest day of the year in sunny San Jose for this mini session. How cold was it? You just have to take my words for it... it was freezing! (well freezing in California term that is). The temperature was probably in the low 40's with slight breeze. That and Thea had just gotten over a cold. What a cutie trooper she was. We had a lot of fun for this brief shoot.

We had a fundraising event this holiday season to raise money to help the people of the Philippines that were affected by Haiyan Typhoon. We gave out mini photo sessions in exchange for a small fee to be donated to a charity that will provide food and clothes for those that are in need.

Diane and Tom were so kind to jump in and help sign up for one of the session. Big thanks to Diane and Tom, you guys are awesome!

We picked a local park on a nice, cool California afternoon for this short but fun session. I really enjoy this time of year.

Palm Event Center is part of Rubino Estate Winery, nested along the beautiful green hills of Pleasanton borderlining Livermore valley. On a beautiful warm August day, Jamie and Steve picked this awesome venue as the backdrop to tie the knot and it couldn't have been any more perfect.

Great weather, gorgeous venue and scenery, along with fun and lovely people, that were all you need for a great time and awesome party.

I was very excited when I found out Thuy and John were going to have their ceremony at Moffett Field Air Field in Mountain View. I always wanted to know how the inside of this once Navy/Nasa air field looks like every time I drove by this huge space.  I finally had my chance and I wasn't disappointed; there are many cool things on displayed, such as old jets, old air crafts, helicopters and even a museum. Best of all, I was able to get super close to Hangar One and could almost reach out and touch it if not for the chained-link fence.

The metal skeleton of Hangar One, which was one of the world's largest free standing structure, served as a super cool backdrop to some of my favorite shots.

I had a chance to do a short session with Claire and Kyle at Alviso Marina Park. Claire is also a photographer and Kyle is in a band which I thought was really cool as you can tell they were very comfortable in front of the camera. The young couple was so fun, full of energy and very much in love. Young, free and loving life, that's the spirit.

The day was June 29th, 2013. It started out beautifully, hot but beautiful. In fact, as I recalled, it was one of the hottest day of the year in San Jose during that weekend. The temperature soared to the high 90's in the afternoon and even reached 100's on some spot in the valley.

A great day to get married, don't you think? That was exactly what Hannah and The set out to do. If we sweat, we'll sweat together - some sort of vow like that. :)

The preparations were done at Fairmont Hotel in downtown San Jose and the bridal out door shoot was at the famous Stanford University campus. The reception was at Dynasty Chinese restaurant in South San Jose. Second photographer was Anhtuan Truong.

It was one of the most relaxing and fun wedding I've had the opportunity to photograph. Everything was beautifully done and well-prepared.

As the unseasonably cool summer is inching toward the end, the late afternoon light becomes more golden. It is a great time for an outdoor portrait session. We took the opportunity and had a short senior-type session at a near by local park in San Jose.

I  had a chance to photograph Nhan's family portrait session last week. Since Amy is also expecting a second child, we turned this into a mini-portrait-family-maternity session. It was a fun and relaxing shoot for everyone.

I did the previous session with Hannah and The in San Francisco. We enjoyed it so much that we wanted to do it again. Hey, good things happen twice!

We were concern of places to shoot in San Jose but decided on downtown. It turned out great as I love the intimacy, small-town feel of San Jose compare to San Francisco.
